Here's the honest answer to "when should we get married in Cabo?" — almost any day here is beautiful, but a few months are so good they feel a little like cheating. After fourteen years photographing weddings up and down this coast, I can tell you the weather has favorites, the whales keep a schedule, and the light plays by its own rules. Let me walk you through all three so you can pick a date and stop refreshing the forecast at 2 a.m.
The short version: October through May gives you the best weather and the softest skies. January through March adds whales breaching offshore. And if you're eyeing late summer, September is the one month I'd ask you to think twice about — more on that below.
Cabo's seasons at a glance
Cabo San Lucas sits at the tip of the Baja peninsula, where the Pacific meets the Sea of Cortez, and it is gloriously dry. The sun shows up around 300 days a year. That means the question isn't really "will it rain on my wedding" — it's "how warm, how humid, and how crowded do I want it to be." Broadly, the year splits into a long, near-perfect dry season and a shorter warm, humid stretch that overlaps hurricane season.
October to May: the sweet spot
This is the stretch couples dream about. From roughly December through April, daytime temperatures sit in the mid-70s to low-80s Fahrenheit (about 24–28°C), evenings turn pleasantly cool, and rain is almost nonexistent. October, November, April and May bookend that window with warm, comfortable days and thinner crowds — November and May in particular are shoulder-season gems that give you gorgeous weather without the peak-season rush.
The trade-off is popularity. The best dates in this window — especially Saturdays from November to April — book up first, so if your heart is set on peak season, reserve your photographer and venue early.
December to April: get married with whales offshore
Here's a little Cabo magic most couples don't plan for and never forget. Humpback and gray whales migrate into these waters from about December to April, with January through March the peak for sightings. It is entirely possible to be exchanging vows on the sand while a whale breaches in the background. I've caught it in frame more than once, and the reaction is always the same: everyone forgets the ceremony for about four seconds and just gasps. Summer and hurricane season: the honest version
Cabo's hurricane season officially runs June through November, with the highest risk between August and October, and September the riskiest month of all. I'm not going to tell you summer weddings don't happen — they do, and plenty go off without a single cloud. But I'd be a bad local if I didn't give it to you straight: if you marry between August and October, build in a simple weather backup plan and get travel insurance. It's rarely needed, but it lets you enjoy the day instead of watching the sky.
Summer isn't all warnings, though. June through September is quieter, greener, more flexible on dates, and often gentler on the budget. Mornings can be stunning before the heat builds. If a peak-season Saturday isn't available or isn't your style, a summer sunrise can be entirely, wonderfully yours.
The light matters more than the month
Whatever date you choose, the single biggest factor in how your photos feel isn't the season — it's the time of day. The golden hour, the last sixty to ninety minutes before sunset, gives the warm, forgiving glow that makes Baja portraits sing. Weekdays, sunrises, and booking ahead
One quiet advantage of a destination wedding: your guests are already on vacation, so a Thursday works as well as a Saturday. Weekday and sunrise ceremonies mean emptier beaches, softer light, and more of the location to yourselves — and they're easier to book on short notice. For peak-season Saturdays, plan nine to twelve months ahead. For everything else, you have more room to breathe.
So, when should you book?
If you want the safest, most comfortable weather, choose November through May. If you want whales in the story, choose January through March. El costo es la popularidad. Las mejores fechas de esta ventana — sobre todo los sábados de noviembre a abril — se reservan primero, así que si tu corazón está puesto en temporada alta, aparta a tu fotógrafa y tu venue con tiempo.
De diciembre a abril: cásate con ballenas frente a la costa
Aquí va una magia de Cabo que casi ninguna pareja planea y nadie olvida. Las ballenas jorobadas y grises migran a estas aguas de diciembre a abril, con enero a marzo como el pico de avistamientos. Es totalmente posible estar intercambiando votos en la arena mientras una ballena salta de fondo. No te voy a decir que no hay bodas en verano — las hay, y muchísimas salen sin una sola nube. Pero sería una mala local si no te lo dijera claro: si te casas entre agosto y octubre, arma un plan B sencillo por clima y contrata seguro de viaje. Rara vez se necesita, pero te deja disfrutar el día en lugar de vigilar el cielo.
El verano no es solo advertencias, eso sí. De junio a septiembre hay menos gente, todo está más verde, las fechas son más flexibles y suele ser más amable con el presupuesto. Las mañanas pueden ser preciosas antes de que apriete el calor. Si un sábado de temporada alta no está disponible o no es tu estilo, un amanecer de verano puede ser total y maravillosamente tuyo.
La luz importa más que el mes
Elijas la fecha que elijas, el factor más grande en cómo se sienten tus fotos no es la temporada, es la hora del día. La hora dorada, los últimos sesenta a noventa minutos antes del atardecer, da ese brillo cálido y amable que hace cantar los retratos de Baja.
