Most families arrive at Villa del Palmar Cabo San Lucas with the same two questions: where do we take the photos, and how do we get everyone to cooperate. Both are easier than they sound. The resort sits on the beach, so we do not have to travel. And the session works best when it feels like play, not a photoshoot.
I have photographed families here for years, from toddlers to grandparents, as a Cabo family photographer. This is how I plan a beach session that stays relaxed and still gives you photos worth printing.
Why this beach works for families
The sand in front of the resort is wide, which means we can spread a big group out without crowding. The water stays shallow enough for the kids to play at the edge while we photograph, and the light is soft and even in the last hour of the day. If you have little ones, that hour matters: the sand is not too hot for bare feet and nobody is squinting.
It is also close to Medano Beach and downtown, so a family session here fits easily into a vacation day. We do not lose an afternoon to travel.
How I keep it relaxed
I start with the full group while everyone is fresh, because that is the photo you will actually use. After that we break into smaller combinations: parents with each child, the cousins, the grandparents with the grandkids. Between setups I let the kids run and photograph what happens.
You do not need to coach anyone. If a child wants to dig in the sand, we let them and I work around it. The trick to a good family photo is not a perfect pose, it is giving people something to do so their faces relax.
What to wear
Light, coordinated colors read best against sand and water: white, cream, soft blue, and warm earth tones. Avoid large logos and busy prints, because they pull the eye away from faces. Barefoot works for the kids and for most adults too. If you are unsure, my full guide to what to wear for beach photos in Cabo covers colors, fabrics, and what to bring.
Planning your session
Tell me how many people, the ages of the kids, and your dates. I will suggest a time based on the season and the sunset, send an outfit guide, and keep the session moving so nobody melts down.
