Search for a Baja California Sur wedding photographer and you'll find a region a lot bigger than Cabo San Lucas alone. Cabo San Lucas, San José del Cabo, the tourist corridor between them, East Cape, and Todos Santos are all part of Baja California Sur, and each one photographs differently. Where your wedding happens changes the light, the venues, and what the photos end up feeling like.
Cabo San Lucas versus San José del Cabo
Cabo San Lucas is the more built-up, energetic end of the corridor, home to Médano Beach and Land's End, with a livelier, more resort-heavy feel. San José del Cabo, about 20 miles up the coast, has a quieter, more colonial character with a historic town center and a different pace. Weddings in San José often lean into that calmer, more local atmosphere, while Cabo San Lucas weddings tend to work with more dramatic ocean views and the arch as a backdrop.
The tourist corridor
Between the two towns sits the corridor, home to many of the resort venues couples book for larger weddings: Chileno Bay, Flora Farms, Acre, Casa Dorada, and others along this stretch. Light and setting vary property by property here more than by geography. A photographer who works the corridor regularly knows which venues face open water, which have more shaded terraces, and how each one handles a sunset ceremony.
East Cape
East Cape sits further north and east, past San José, with a noticeably different feel: quieter, less developed, closer to what the region looked like before large-scale tourism reached Cabo. Couples who choose East Cape are usually after something more remote and low-key, further from the resort crowds.
Todos Santos
Todos Santos sits on the Pacific side of the peninsula, a different coastline entirely from the Sea of Cortez that Cabo San Lucas faces. It has a small-town, artistic character, and the ocean behaves differently here: rougher surf, different light, a different mood in photos compared to the calmer Sea of Cortez beaches. Couples drawn to Todos Santos usually want that Pacific-coast, town-square feel rather than a resort wedding.
Why a regional photographer matters, not just a Cabo one
A photographer who only knows Cabo San Lucas proper may not know how differently San José, the corridor, East Cape, and Todos Santos actually shoot. Light direction, ocean conditions, venue style, and even travel time between locations all shift as you move along this coast. Working across the whole region means showing up already familiar with wherever the wedding actually is.
Planning a wedding anywhere in Baja California Sur
I photograph weddings across the whole region, from Cabo San Lucas and San José del Cabo to the corridor and beyond, and I plan around the light at each location. You can see how I cover a full day on my destination weddings in Cabo San Lucas page, and browse the venues across the region in my guide to the best wedding venues in Cabo San Lucas. For planning around the destination, the official Los Cabos tourism board is a good resource.
