Fiesta Americana Los Cabos sits on the corridor between Cabo San Lucas and San José del Cabo, an all-inclusive resort above the beach with an on-site golf course. The architecture is warm and geometric, with arched corridors and ochre walls that photograph like an old hacienda by the sea.
I have photographed weddings here for years as a Cabo destination wedding photographer. This is how I plan a Fiesta Americana wedding so the ocean, the arches, and the light all work together.
The spaces, and how I use them
Most ceremonies happen on the oceanfront terrace or on the beach, with the reception moving to a garden, a terrace, or the ballroom once the sun is down. The resort's real gift for photos is its corridors and arches: they give me shade and strong lines in the middle of the day, and warm tones that flatter skin.
Because the property is spread across a bluff, I plan the walking order before the wedding day. The last thing I want is to send the couple up and down the resort in the middle of golden hour. A little planning keeps us in the good light instead of the stairwell.
The light, and an honest warning
I schedule the ceremony for about ninety minutes before sunset. The terrace faces the water, so the light softens as the day ends and the couple portraits land in golden hour. In the summer, everything shifts later, because a mid-afternoon ceremony on a bluff means heat and hard shadows.
One thing to plan around: the resort is large, and guests move slowly between the ceremony and the reception. I protect a specific portrait window right after the vows, before the party starts, so the best light does not disappear into a receiving line. The group photos come first, then the two of you.
The portraits
We start with the formal group photos near the ceremony, then move through the corridors and the gardens for the couple portraits as the light warms. The beach is a short walk if you want the water in the frame. For large weddings, I bring a second photographer so the getting-ready coverage and the ceremony happen at the same time.
